Fashion designer, podcast host, author, YouTuber, mom, entrepreneur, reality-show royalty: Whitney Port might naturally be associated with the MTV show that brought her to fame in 2006, but the effortless multihyphenate has long transcended The Hills, and the now-nostalgic tropes that came with it. No surprise: Any true devotees of show, along with its spin-off, The City, would argue that consistently rising above the drama, Whitney remained a refreshing reprieve from her counterparts.
Now the Los Angeles native balances life with her son, Sonny, and husband, former The City producer Tim Rosenman, with COZeCO, her sustainable fashion line of elevated organic-cotton basics, and her weekly podcast With Whit, where she discusses beauty, wellness, relationships, and more alongside industry insiders like Chriselle Lim and Hillary Kerr. Oh, and there's her YouTube channel, featuring particularly the engrossing duel shows she casually records on her couch, aptly titled Reacting to The Hills and Reacting to The City. (If you guessed they're self-deprecating, you'd be right.)
For The Protocol, Whitney gets candid with us about decompressing, Dermaplaning, and daily rituals:
What’s the first thing you do when you wake up?
Honestly, lately, I have usually been in Sonny's bed or my bed with Sonny. If we wake up together, I ask him to give me a hug first. I try to put my two feet on the floor and say, "Today is going to be a good day." Then I tend to his needs until it's time to go to school.
Describe your morning and evening skincare routines.
They are pretty much the same, except for the sunscreen step! I use a gentle cleanser, oil-reducing pads, a vitamin C serum, firming serum, power defense serum, moisturizer (I love U Beauty's SUPER Hydrator), eye cream, and then sunscreen!
Do you have a fitness routine? If yes, what are your objectives/goals when you work out?
Yes! I try to do hot yoga a couple of times a week and a Pilates/yoga-style flow about three times a week. The goal is to stay healthy from the inside-out, build muscle to support my aging bones, tone, and, most importantly, feel that rush of endorphins after.
Have you tried any in-office cosmetic procedures (lasers, fillers, microneedling, etc.)?
Yes, I have tried Botox, a little filler under the eyes (not sure how I feel about it), and I just got Dermaplaned and HydraFacialed (two of my fave things together that I do every three weeks-ish). I have tried micro-needling in the past but never as a series or something that I have seen huge differences from.
Which procedures do you love, and which would you never try (or never try again!)?
DERMAPLANING is THE BEST! Not only does it take off the peach fuzz, but it exfoliates the skin which leaves it as soft as a baby's bottom. It also just looks soooooo even afterward.
I didn't love a lymphatic drainage facial. The pressure was way too light and I can't stand that.
What’s your diet like on a typical day?
Oat milk latte and eggs in the am, salad with protein for lunch, fruit or healthy chips (The Good Crisp Company ;) ) or juice for a snack, and then a bigger dinner of a protein and sides! It isn't too specific, and it's always changing. It is all about moderation.
What's the last thing you do before you go to bed?
Charge my phone in the other room, brush my teeth, put my Lucas' Papaw on my lips and eyes, and melt into my Slipsilk pillowcase. Oh, and watch Big Brother or Bachelor in Paradise.
Who’s your beauty idol?
Christy Turlington. She's natural, graceful, and still looks like herself.
What’s the most high-maintenance aspect of your beauty protocol?
How many products I use. It's too much. I wish I didn't have to, but it works and I want to stick with it. It requires time, takes a lot of space in luggage and makes a huge mess, but the results are worth it!
What’s the best piece of beauty advice you’ve gotten?
I have to keep reminding myself that youth does not equal beauty. We need to embrace aging and focus on working towards healthy and strong skin.
What’s your 24-hour plan for getting ready for a big event or photoshoot?
Dermaplaning and a HydraFacial a day before, organic spray tan that night, workout in the am, eat healthy, hydrating mask before makeup, and majorly moisturize!
What do you do when you want to reset, regroup, or detox?
I turn on a virtual flow, meditate for 10 minutes to Calm, cry, take five deep breaths, text my therapist, and/or go to a hot yoga class.
